Introduction
This recording collection focuses primarily on the area near Wengshui Village in Shangri-La, located at the heart of the Three Rivers Confluence Protection Zone. Numerous turbulent rivers rush out from various canyons, converging into the ever-roaring Wengshui River. The main inhabitants here are Kangba Tibetans, who speak a Kangba Tibetan dialect with a distinct accent compared to other regions. A young guide mentioned that he could barely understand the Tibetan spoken in other areas. The elevation here ranges from 3,500 to 4,300 meters, with surrounding peaks reaching around 5,000 meters.
Due to the presence of multiple river valleys, they became the primary focus of this recording project.
The recording locations mainly include:
- Both banks of the Wengshui River
- Daxueshan Pass
- Birong Canyon
- Yangzhonggong Canyon Pasture
- Naotong Canyon Pasture
These canyons have abundant water flow, carving through steep cliffs as they rush downward. At Yangzhonggong Canyon Pasture, we captured the characteristic rumble of an open canyon, a quintessential sound. At aotong Pasture, we unexpectedly recorded the scene of yaks returning to their pens in the evening. Each herd of yaks had bells with unique pitches, scattered across the open river valley pasture, resembling a giant, moving marimba.
As river valleys, rivers are naturally indispensable. In the upper reaches of Birong Canyon, where two mountains stand at a 90-degree angle, the river becomes wild and untamed, with the sound amplified by the echoing cliffs. Even at the tranquil Wengshui Lake, the distant roar of the river still resonates through the primeval forest by the lakeside.

Bonus tracks:
- 2 tracks of Airport ambience in Chengdu Tianfu Airport
- A 60m long track which’s from MarshMellow Pro contact mic on a spruce tree.
- A track of overnight drop-rig recording in the dark woods besides engshui lake.
